The Benton Street Squeeze.

A tourist attraction in Hadleigh is the Benton Street Squeeze, performed all day, every day, all along the street on the roadway, on the pavement, the front door steps and on your toes.

Witness it at your risk!

BENTON STREET RESURFACING

21-23 July 2010 between Station Road and Hook Lane.  No cars to be parked along Benton Street to allow a complete resurfacing.  the diversion route is as per the map, click here.  If you can not get the link the diversion is as below.

Diversion via the C730 Station Road, Pond Hall Road, C466 Clay Hill, C465 Woodlands Road to Raydon, B1070 via Layham, Benton Street and vice versa.

A meeting was held at Priory Hall on 24.03.10.  Over 60 people attended and were able to ask PC M Paisley of BESNT what has been happening about Benton Street.  He confirmed that there has been an increase in time spent down the road, with more speeding fines and overwiegh vehicles being fined.  Also, at the meeting were many Councillors from all the local councils, many of whom said that they would support our quest to make Benton Street a safer environment for pedestrians etc.

14.04.10 is when the Suffolk County Council will decided upon the 20 mph speed limit along Benton Street.  PC Paisley has requested that he should be present to give a detailed report of the road.  Otherwise the Suffolk County Council Safety Committee will make their decision looking at guidelines and statistics and not at the facts of living and using the road.

We will report on the decision, fingers crossed.

The new design road signs have been erected, these are of a European Standard.  It is now only legal for an HGV to travel down Benton Street if it is loading/unloading along the road and not in Hadleigh.  Please use the link, (HGV Incident Record), to inform Trading Standards of illegal lorries.  Trading Standards are also going to increase their visibility because of the new signs.
