The Benton Street Squeeze.

A tourist attraction in Hadleigh is the Benton Street Squeeze, performed all day, every day, all along the street on the roadway, on the pavement, the front door steps and on your toes.

Witness it at your risk!

BENTON STREET RESURFACING 21st to 23rd July 2010  click here for the DIVERSION MAP & ROUTE

The B1070, Benton Street, Hadleigh, Suffolk is infamous for its road problems.  It was not designed for a lot of traffic, maybe the odd horse, a cart or two and a herd of cattle.  We now have over 3000 vehicle movements a day.  We all know HGV's are banned but they still like to visit our lovely road and look closely at the fantastic old brickwork, overhanging buildings and lime washed walls.

We have been given a chance to do something about our daily problems of crab walking along the street at busy periods.  Suffolk County Council are looking at Benton Street, analyse the type of traffic and see what can be done to reduce the congestion.  Our emergency services have requested this because the congestion may mean that an emergency is not answered in time.

Please fill in the contact page with your thoughts on what you think should happen to reduce the congestion, road rage and pedestrian near misses.  We will publish them on the "your thoughts page" so that Suffolk County Council can see our views.  We would like you to take photos of the problems.  These will be published in our fools gallery and we can also use them as evidence for the HGV incident form and to fine HGV drivers and their Company's for disregarding the tonnage law.

Benton Street is a great place to live, it has many listed buildings and some great hidden gardens with great views of the rolling hills of the Brett valley.
